Why is there no scorecard? Although Box of Golf® plays like real golf, there is no reason to write down scores. The player with the most gems at the the end of the round wins!
When do house rules apply? Occasionally players may debate the interpretation of a rule. If this happens, use your best judgment and decide as a group how to proceed. That also adds to the fun! Please feel free to modify the rules for younger players. For example, you might consider eliminating the impact of course obstacles until beginners get used to the game.
Can I get a hole-in-one? Yes. On our Original Course there are four chances for a hole-in-one. Holes 4, 7, 9, and 12.
Why are there two greens on a game board? One is an enlargement of the other. Once you land on the Green from the fairway, advance to the Putting Surface to continue moving towards the Flag.
If a player has shot over par, do gems have to be given back? No.
If I’m one under par and won the hole outright, how many gems do I get? Three gems – one gem for being one under par and two gems for winning the hole. No Peeking!
Can you use a “wind” gem before you land on an Arrow? Yes. The ball has not landed and is still in the air.
Can you use a “wind” gem after you have rolled to the next space from landing on an Arrow? No. The ball has already landed and rolled, therefore it is no longer affected by the wind.
Can more than ONE gem be spent during a turn? No. Only one gem may be spent during a turn. Exception: A red gem is a “mulligan” to ‘do-over’ your entire turn. You CAN take as many “mulligans” as you have red gems. Since you’re starting your turn over, you CAN again spend ONE gem.
Can a yellow gem be used after a “natural” backspin? No. The backspin has already happened and the turn is over.
Can you overshoot the Green if there are no symbols on the other side of it? If there is no overshot symbol, you do not have to be careful about the number of dice you roll, and as long as you get the minimum number to land on the Green. The extra dice that may have been the right color DO NOT advance you on the Putting Surface.
I need a one to get onto the Green. I roll two dice, one red and the other purple. Did I get a “natural” backspin? ONLY if shooting from a Bunker, since purple dice have no value and CANNOT be re-rolled or counted. When shooting from any other space, purple dice become the color that you are matching and are counted in the total number of spaces you move.
I need a three to get onto the Green. My first roll, I throw four dice, two green and two purple. Did I overshoot the Green? Yes. Your first and final roll is four since these dice CANNOT be re-rolled. This might be a good time to play a “wind” gem to get yourself back onto the Green.
If you roll five dice, three come up red and two are yellow, can you choose what color to go for? No. The higher number of matching dice must always be chosen (with the exception of black).
I was hitting out of the Bunker (sand trap), and need two in order to land on the Green. I roll the dice and two blue came up, plus a “wild” purple. The rules state that when hitting from the sand, I must treat the purple as a black divot which CANNOT be re-roll or counted. Therefore, may I still call my stroke a “natural” for a free backspin? Yes.
