Box of Golf Board Game
Bob Koczor
Monopoly, watch out. There’s a golf board game of golf that has the potential of putting you in second place.
Im talking about Box of Golf, a new prestigious and high-end 18 hole board game which requires no tee times, no coupons for discount golf, and no excuses after you slice the ball.
Its all intended for fun, and the best thing is that you don’t have to know how to play the real game to play this one well. Though Box of Golf is designed to play like the real game of golf, no handicap or prior experience as a golfer is necessary to be the winner.
Players vie against par for nine or 18 holes and, yes, attempt to complete each hole with the fewest number of strokes, a goal which sometimes is forgotten in real golf.
Players choose their “club” by rolling one or as many as five dice. On game boards consisting of beautifully-painted golf holes, one advances through, by or around hazards which include trees, hills, rough and bunkers. Lets not forget water, which results in a penalty stroke.
This is not a sit-back and watch-TV kind of game, however, because players can use backspin to put their approach shot in the hole, or they can hit over trees, roll with the hills, or blow with the wind.
This games winner is the player with the most gems at the end.
The Box of Golf is one of the most impressive board games Ive ever played, and I’m comparing it to the Backgammon boards which I wore thin 25 years ago when that was the craze of the day and night, along with the Bee Gees.
Made from collector quality select Cherry hardwood, the Box of Golf is most attractive and stands elegantly by itself, sans play.
Craftsmanship by skilled woodworkers is apparent in each game, obvious by the selection of hardwoods.
The game boards and cover are original oil paintings by artists David M. Bowers and Greg LaFever. Offered in a Basic version for $99 and a Deluxe version for $198, the Box of Golf makes for an ideal gift, one that will be cherished and can be passed down the family tree.
Just imagine the most attractive coffee table book you have ever displayed, and then you’ll understand what presence this game in its heirloom box makes.Box of Golf provides as much time of fun that you may want, especially when inclement weather keeps you from playing the game. Friends and family can entertain themselves, rather than sit watching CNN or the Fox Network for hour-after-hour.
Come to think about it, years ago family meals (everyone at the same time!) were SOP, and playing games in the parlor kept the family together, a far cry from the video games which sometimes snare the precious time and essence of youth away from the rest of the family.
There is more to this Box of Golf Board game than meets the eye…..
